Roamin' Rose: Traveling in Style

Come along as I trade my high heels for Hokas and roam the world, hubby in tow.

What I’ll share

On the following pages I'll share my cherished travel experiences, the destinations that capture my heart, the hotels that feel like home away from home, the restaurants that tantalize the taste buds, and all those insider discoveries—like finding gourmet meals at food truck prices—that truly elevate a trip.

How this began

My spirit of exploration began in my own backyard, then extended to my neighbor's, an empty lot, and the local café. Soon, I was graduating to coastal towns, ancient Roman ruins, scenic riverfront trails, and vibrantly colored vineyards during harvest season. This natural progression led me to wandering through castles in Portugal, diving into the clear waters of the Caribbean, cooking paella in Spain, and trekking the majestic French Alps. It became clear: the more I explored, the deeper my desire to see more, and the more I wanted to share these incredible journeys.

Writing my way around the world

I've published more than a dozen books, from travel guides to coffee table books, all bursting with beautiful photos and rich stories. My passion for sharing led me to write for magazines and newspapers, and now this blog.

My travel style

You won't find budget travel stories here. I've had my share of sleeping above train stations, in one-star B&Bs, and even in my car. These days, I prefer a clean, safe, and friendly accommodation with plenty of hot water, quiet rooms, private bathrooms, and a front desk staff that greets me by name. While I don't need white gloves and top hats, I always appreciate an attractive lobby with overstuffed chairs and windows that look to the beauty outside.

Comfort and style are key.

Favorite destinations

Choosing a favorite is impossible! London kicked off my overseas adventures and opened my heart to the Cotswolds and Wales. Then I discovered France and spent winter holidays in Colmar, with its neighboring towns chockful of colorful markets and mugs of hot mulled wine to take the chill off the night.  Paris—a city I never tire of, is delightful year-round, from spring strolls down backstreets to the white lights on the Champs-Élysées.

Italy makes my heart flutter. The coastal beauty of Polignano a Mare or the majestic mountain setting of Ortisei in Val Gardena. I can’t forget Japan,  with its steaming hot mud bathes. Not to be missed. Other gems include Belize's Caye Caulker, Pulau Tioman in Malaysia, and Cochem, a German fairytale setting.

Quiet time

When I have quiet time I read: magazines, newspapers, travel books, cookbooks (love Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat), health (thank you, WebMD), politics (unbiased), birding (ask me about falconry), French language and novels galore. I love to bake and on a rainy day you’ll find me elbow deep in dough. Of course, I adore my family: my kind husband, my loving brothers and sisters in law, and those adorable nieces and nephew who have started families of their own.

My Values

I try to do unto others. If someone is lost, guide them. If someone is sad, comfort them, If someone is hungry, feed them. A kind heart makes for a kind world.
